Caption "Baxter's Wynd, looking to High Street, Burgh of Falkirk"
Date photo taken Circa 1900
Brief Description View looking up Baxter's Wynd to the High Street, Falkirk. There is a forestair on the west side and further along a young woman is observing the photographer. There is one gaslight, at the far end.
Photographer or Artist Unknown
Subject Place Baxter's Wynd/Falkirk town centre/Falkirk area
Associated Notes Baxter is Scots for baker so there was probably a baker or bakery here. The wynd had different names in earlier times. Running off Falkirk High Street at right angles were closes, or narrow lanes called wynds or vennels. Some were demolished around 1900 to improve the flow of traffic, and others in the late 20th century to make way for shopping centres, but some still survive
