Printed on the obverse is "FIVE POUNDS/ FALKIRK [21 Augt/ 1815]/ No. [68//72] The Falkirk Union Bank/ Promise to pay [Wm gentles] or/ The Bearer on demand Five Pounds/ At their Office here No. [68//72]/ By Order of the Company/ [James Brown] Cashie/ Entd. pr. [Will. Horn]/ G. Paton fer. Kirkwood & Sons/ FALKIRK UNION BANK". Note that the "r" at the end of cashier is omitted. On the revenue stamp is " E 1804 ONE SHILLING".
