William Simpson, by a General Disposition and Settlement, conveyed one half of his heritable estate to Dr James Espie while the other half went to his heirs-at-law. The heirs-at-law then sold their half to Dr Espie. Before his death, part of William Simpson's property (in the Randygate and Back Row) was designated by the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway Co for the formation of the Stirlingshire Midland Railway but he died before an agreement over compensation could be reached.
