Papers relating to succession to estate of James Ewing senior, nurseryman, which included dwelling houses and gardens at East Burn Bridge of Falkirk and subjects on the south side of Linlithgow Rd and relating to appointment, by James Ewing's (senior) children of a Judicial Factor (John Russel, Writer in Falkirk) who later disponed the said property to Ann Ewing or Learmonth after the death of her brother Thomas. Includes Valuation of heritable property, inventories of the personal estates of James Ewing, Jean Smith or Ewing and Thomas Ewing their son, petition by Judicial Factor for authority to complete Title, State of Affairs, State of Settlement between siblings James Ewing and Ann Ewing or Learmonth.

James Ewing (d.1840), nurseryman sometime residing in Falkirk was married to Jean Smith or Ewing (d.1862). He had two sons and one daughter living in 1862: Thomas Ewing, the eldest, also a nurseryman; the second son, James Ewing, a currier, residing in Warton's Buildings, Castle Terrace, Edinburgh; and the daughter, Ann Ewing or Learmonth, wife of David Learmonth, a baker in Redding.
