Description
One flange fragment from a mortarium in slightly granular fabric, which was intended to be white or greyish-white, but which was so heavily reduced to greyish-black that it has only a surface ‘skin’ which is the correct colour. The inclusions include random quartz and black slag? The corner of what may be a stamp survives at the break. No source can be suggested, but one in Scotland is marginally more likely than elsewhere.
