John Collins,a paper manufacturer from Glasgow, took over the running of Stoneywood Paper Mill in 1886. The mill had been in the ownership of Alexander Duncan & Sons and in in 1893 Sir William Collins, father of John, also purchased Herbertshire Mill from the same company, leaving John in charge of both mills. John died in 1895 but the company of John Collins Ltd continued until January 1908 when the firm was liquidated. Carrongrove Paper Coo took over the two paper mills.
