Late 1930s-Early 1940s
Pink rucked swimsuit of silk or artificial silk with a cotton lining. The swimsuit front has been divided into three panels by two lines of rucking, the side seams are also rucked. A piece of crushed velvet has been inserted after manufacture into the side seams from the waist to the hip, to increase width. The suit top has a slight sweetheart neckline and is trimmed with a frill. The straps have been detachable, but are now sewn down, and the buttons are missing. The ends of the straps slot through a loop on the centre back to tie. The swimsuit back is rucked horizontally from top to bottom with approx. 25 cm. between each line. The rucked lines are stitched with elastic. The side seams are boned on the bust section.
