Administrative History
Russel & Aitken appear to have been solicitors for the Grosart family from about 1827 when Robert Grosart, a farmer at Boddan, near Falkirk, died. Robert Grosart was married to Jean Kincaid and had five children, Margaret, Robert, Thomas, James and Elizabeth Grosart. Thomas Grosart (Farmer, Backside, Wester Calder) had a son, James Grosart who was the executor for his father, his aunts and his uncle, James who died in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. As the nearest lawful heir to these four siblings, James, inherited most of the family property which included Boddam Farm, land in the Back Row, Falkirk and properties in the High St, Falkirk.

James Grosart, who lived in Dumbarton, also owned property in Grahamsmuir and had an illegitimate son called James Grosart who was a tinsmith in Glasgow and an illegitimate daughter, Ann Grosart or McGaffney.
