Subject notes
In the late 16th century the Livingstones extended the original 14th century tower house, adding to the south and the east. The battlements were improved to allow protection against powerful artillery but the walls were thinner than the original tower house walls and there were larger windows. The entrance to the house was by a ground floor doorway into an entrance hall and a wider staircase inside.
