Description
This is a demonstration piece that was used at Torwood Foundry in c1990 to train apprentices. It consists of:
(1) A black resin half pattern of a valve.
(2) A plywood box, painted red, representing the moulding box. It contains another copy of the half pattern for a valve (painted black).
(3) Another block of wood, also painted red, represents the moulding sand that would have been placed in (2) taking up the impression of the pattern. Into this a yellow resin bonded core fits (providing the central hollow in the finished casting.
