Description
Halfpenny trade token payable at Leek Staffordshire. Decorated on the obverse with two hands united in front of an olive branch. On the reverse is a caduceus and a large bale of goods. The token has the motto "Arte favente nil desperandum" which is the motto of Leek town and means "our skill assisting us, we have no cause for despair". The town was a major producer of textiles with silk dominating in later years.
