Description
Penny trade token. On the obverse is a bust of the Duke of Wellington (Arthur Richard Wellesley) with the words "WELLINGTON & ERIN GO BRAGH 1816". On the reverse is the crowned harp with "EDWD. STEPHENS DUBLIN".
These were minted by Edward Stephens at his private mint in Dublin. They were minted as substitute coins at a time when small change was scarce in the UK. Erin go Bragh is an anglicized version of Eire go Brach meaning Ireland forever.
