Description
Halfpenny trade token. On the obverse is a depiction of St Andrew with a cross and thistles on either side. The Latin text translates as "No one harms me with impunity". On the reverse is a shield bearing the arms of Edinburgh with an anchor and crest above. The shield has a thistle on either side.
Hutchisons were merchants whose business was in the High Street in Edinburgh. It has been estimated that between 1787 and 1817 over 10,000 of trade tokens.
