Description
Penny token decorated on the obverse by a hooded druid looking right set in a circular wreath with acorns. On the reverse is PM Co monogram with "WE PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ONE PENNY" 1788". On the edge is "ON DEMAND IN LONDON LIVERPOORL OR ANGLESEY".
These were commissioned by Thomas Williams for use by his company Parys Mine Company due to a shortage of small change at the time. The company began in 1778 and they were mining copper and Parys Mountain was the largest mine in Europe in the 1780s.
