pipe; tobacco

Description
Complete clay tobacco pipe bowl with part of the flat heel. The bowl has a lanceate star and dot motif on the left side, 1630-1650. This is a common motif from the second quarter of the 17th century (eg Davey 19 , 216) and is similar to the Tudor (?) pattern found at Kirkintilloch, Perth, Scalloway Castle and Aberdeen. A second pattern on the other side of the bowl has been too badly smudged to recognise.
Falkirk Pleasance.
