Description
A centavo coin from the Philippines. Circular coin on the obverse is an image of a man seated looking out to an island and on the reverse is a shield surmounted by an eagle in a wreath. Embossed on the obverse is " ONE CENTAVO FILIPINAS" and on the reverse is " UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1911 ".

The US acquired the Philippine Islands in 1898 and from 1903-1945 used coins with USA and Philippines on them. This coinage was produced to be similar to US coins but denominated in pesos and centavos like Spanish coins, which has been circulating in the country.
