It is a summer's day and the tramcar passengers have chosen to sit upstairs with its open top. The driver and the conductor can also be seen. The trolley and overhead lines are clearly visible. A man wearing a wide-brimmed hat stands by the river's edge.

Subject notes
This is the original Larbert Bridge built in 1782. It was superseded by a ferro-concrete bridge in 1925, itself replaced in the 1960s. The tram driver was exposed to the elements in all weathers, and in winter could end a shift coated in ice.
