There are hallmarks on the obverse. It is in the original jewellery case "113 SAUCHIEHALL ST/ David Dow & Son/ JEWELLERS & SILVERSMITHS/ 68/ ARGYLE ST/ GLASGOW."

James Haddow was the proprietor of a high-class grocery store in Vicar Street. It was his wife who presented the medal.
Helen Christie left school shortly after receiving the medal at the age of thirteen and went into service as a kitchen maid. Before long she decided to emigrate to make a better life in Canada and returned to Scotland in 1939. Then war broke out and she was unable to get back to Canada. In the meantime she met her future husband and stayed in the town of her birth.
