Description
View down the brae. The Victoria Park fountain is on the right. On the left is a two-storey tenement with forestairs giving access to the first floor. In the distance is Grangepans and the head gear of the coal pit in Cowdenbeath Road and in the distance the Forth.
Typescript caption on reverse of print "A view of what is now known as the Fountain Park, Bo'ness. In earlier days it was familiar to the people of Grangepans as the Barrel Braes for a spring rose in the hill there and the water was collected in a barrel, into which the residents dipped their buckets to draw out their supply of water for drinking and washing purposes. it was customary for the householders to carry two pails suspended from a wooden yoke which they carried on their shoulders"
