Description
Carved stone tablet with two shields with the date 1678 between. The shield to the left is flanked by the initials 'W R' and has a Lochaber axe as crest. The shield itself comprises three boars' heads, a lance and a Locahaber axe. The shield to the right is flanked by the initials 'S I' and comprises a saltire.

The arms and initials belong to William Rankine of Orchardhead and his wife, Sara Little, who died in 1687. Originally a laird's dwelling, comprising three floors and a garret. Built of random rubble, harled outside and plastered inside. The 17th century house was a roofless shell by 1963. See RCAHMS, Stirlingshire, 1963, HMSO, Vol 2, p343.
