range; "Portdownie"

Maker
Port Downie Iron Works
Description
Small range with a boiler to the right and oven to the left of the fire. The patent vent has a coat-of-arms on the front. The tap for the boiler, and the small door for the ash are missing. "PORTDOWNIE/ PATENT RANGE”.
The range, which had been in a terrace house in Aberdeen, was removed and placed in the garden as an ornament for 20 years. Thereafter it was gifted to the neighbour, who restored it and placed it in his house, burning wood in the grate during the winter. Fuel consumption was high and it was replaced by a more efficient modern heating stove in 2011.
