hot plate

Maker
Carron Co
Description
Cast iron hot plate built into an arched recess in the kitchen at Callendar House. It is said to have been made by the Carron Company. The curved front projects into the room and is flanked to either side by full length women in flowing robes. There are three panels on the front. That to the right shows a woman sat next to a pedestal on top of which is a large bird that she is feeding; left of the pedestal is a wheat plant. The ash box was made in 1998 to replace the original, which was missing.
