 Description
A group stands outside a shop advertising fruit, confectionery, lemonade and ginger beer. The shopkeeper stands at the door. A mother and two children stand at the top of a stair; plaster has fallen off the wall. Roofs are pantiled with a crow-stepped gable. The Vennel is in the background at right angles to the street.

The houses have been white washed in the past but are old and dilapidated. The people now living in them are poor. The vennel ran between the two buildings nearest the camera.
