The grapple being used to stack hay is now in the object collection. After a week or so of drying the crop in stooks out in the field, it was brought to the stackyard beside the barn. A foundation was laid of stone, cast iron, or even old straw or brushwood to stop the haystack drawing water. They were usually round, and the top was thatched to keep out rain.
