Subject notes
The Three Stand Hot Strip Mill reduced the thickness of the strip in three staged reductions. It then coiled the strip ready for further processing in No 8 Cold Strip mill. However, before it can move on to No 8 Strip mill it has to go into temporary storage to allow it to cool first. The sample shear would be used to cut a sample from the coil to check the metal met specifications. It was not used very often.
