Subject notes
Aluminium used for aircraft manufacture had to be perfectly flat. Before the introduction of shape and gauge control on No 8 Cold Strip Mill in the late 1980s stretching machines carried out the process of stretching and flattening the sheet. The sheets were interleaved with tissue to prevent abrasion.
