Sites and Monument Record: Almond Castle (Haining Castle) (SMR 204)
Description
Known also as Almond castle (see 204). L shaped tower-house, with later additions to NE and SE faces. Possibly tower-house is 15th century, but no certain evidence exists to confirm this. Additions are of two separate building phases dating to the late 16th Century. Notable internal features are the remains of a piscina in the 2nd floor of the main block, and is set in the E wall, and was most likely part of a private chapel. It may also be possible that the chaplain served the local community.
