Sites and Monument Record: Larbert Viaduct (SMR 233)

15 stone arches carry the main railway over the Carron Valley. Built in 1846 the memorial stone reads: "THE FOUNDATION STONE/ OF THIS/ VIADUCT/ WHICH IS THE LOWER PART OF THIS PIER/ WAS LAID BY' MRS FALSHAW/ ON THE SIXTH OF JULY/ MDCCCXLVI".

In 1845 the Scottish Central Railway joined Perth to the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway by Stirling. The following year the Stirlingshire Midland Junction Railway between Polmont and Larbert gave Edinburgh a direct connection with the north by way of Stirling.
