Sites and Monument Record: Avon Aqueduct (SMR 243)
Description
Stylish aquaduct carrying the Union Canal over the River Avon. It has 12 50ft wide arches 86 ft above the water, supported on stone piers with hollow spandrels. These carry a cast iron trough 7ft deep and 13.5ft wide. It is 810 ft long and was opened in 1822. Constructed by Messrs Craven, Whitaker and Nowell.
