Sites and Monument Record: Avon Viaduct I (SMR 248)

Description
A railway viaduct of 20 segmental arches, each spanning 50 ft at 92 ft above the River Avon. There are 3 smaller semi-circular arches to either side. It carries the main Edinburgh-Glasgow line. Opened 1842. Grainger and Miller engineers. Cream squared and coursed sandstone ashlar, rusticated piers. Impost banding to each arch, band course at parapet.
