Sites and Monument Record: Grange Primary School (SMR 273)
Description
1893, built as the Grange Primary School for the Grangemouth School Board. Near square in plan, Jacobean-detailed. Red sandstone, squared rubble with polished dressings, 3 parallel 2-storey N - S ranges.
S & N elevations: 9 bays (3-3-3), the centre block slightly advanced and gabled with arched entrance in Corinthian columned doorpiece, blind balustrade above, 2 flanking windows with shell heads at ground. Pilastered angles and strips dividing bays, rise into gable and culminate in finials, central inscribed panel. Outer bays, with central bipartite, that to 1st floor breaking eaves and with finialled dormerhead.
E and W elevations: similarly detailed, central bay with tripartite windows to each floor and gabled, finialled dormerhead, with clock to W. Green Westmoreland slates with red ridgepiece. Cut down ventilators. Demolished 1998.
