Sites and Monument Record: Kinglass Park Temporary Camp (SMR 320)

Description
The camp lies mostly on what were, until recently, parts of the lands of Gauze Farm on the outskirts of Bo'ness. Aerial photographs have located the S side and SW angle, revealed. The W side coincided with the division between two crops, and was consequently indistinguishable, but what might have been a titulus could be seen in the field to the W of the boundary. In 1955, the line of the W sector was located by probing. The NE angle and parts of the E side were similarly located, though 18th century quarrying in the vicinity may have caused some confusion. A tolerable plan of the camp was therefore obtained. It was found to measure 149 m square internally, an area of about 2.23 ha. In 1999 excavation on the supposed line of the east ditch failed to locate any sign of it. Nor was anything found at the supposed SE corner during the construction of an extension to 13 Gauze Rd in 2008.
