Sites and Monument Record: Castlecary Tumulus (SMR 467)
Description
Horsley refers to a round tumulus of earth and stone about a furlong E of Castlecary Fort and near a house or two called 'Booneck' (not traced). It stood on the Wall and was thought to be an 'exporatory mount' rather than a barrow. Maitland dismissed it as a corn or malt-kiln, and Roy refers simply to "something like a small tumulus in the ditch". Nimmo returns to Horsley's opinion but states it is "upon the northern brink". It no longer exists, and it is probable that the above were referring to different things.
