Site history notes
An estate plan of 1793 shows two mills at Stoneywood: an unnamed paper mill at Wester Stoneywood and Scrogs Mill. The paper mill must have been that owned by Francis Strachan, paper maker, in 1795, when it was known as Stoney Wood Paper Miln. From 1824 until 1832 Robert Weir, paper maker, was registered at 12 Miller Street, Glasgow, and Stoneywood Mill.
It has been suggested that Stoneywood Mill was the first of the woollen mills in the area, but this is likely to have been Scrogs Mill.
