Site history notes
An inscription opposite the door reads: The site of this family Burial Place was the spot to which Margaret Dunn, wife of John Scott, Woodend, was wont to retire with a female friend for meditation and prayer. When on her deathbed in 1758, she requested her husband to bury her where she often enjoyed so much sweet communion with God. Her body, accordingly, was the first to be laid to rest in this tomb." John Scott died in 1762. The family were elders at the newly formed Erskine Church.
