Sites and Monument Record: Slamannan Boer War Memorial (SMR 597)

Description
At Slamannan Cross facing Main St. It is a combined clock and fountain memorial, 10.7 m tall. It consists of a square plinth bearing an inscription on its north face and curved drinking basins on the west and east sides. Each basin has a fountain above it. Standing on the plinth is a large fluted column with an ornate capital of thistles and acanthus leaves. The centre of the west and east sides of the capital carries a griffin head, with a bird on he two remaining faces. A cubical metal clock case rests on the capital, painted black and gold. The name of its Edinburgh manufacturer is stamped on the bottom of its NW corner. Above the clock is an stone obelisk.
