Sites and Monument Record: Airth Old Parish Churchyard (SMR 722)
Description
This graveyard lies mostly to the N of the church due to the local topography. It is enclosed to the W and N by a 2 m high boundary wall, capped with sloping flat slabs.
Some of these slabs are reused gravestones. There are
2 entrances through this wall. That to the N is wide
enough for a cart, whilst that to the W has a stone
lintel and is for pedestrian access only. Presumably
this latter entrance was for use only by the occupants
of the adjacent castle. Another pedestrian access has
been placed in the N wall at a later (c1820) date.
The S and E sides are formed by the precipice of the
rock, with additional retaining walls as appropriate.
