Sites and Monument Record: Dunipace Old Churchyard (SMR 723)
Description
This graveyard lies to the NW of the remaining Hill of Dunipace, around the site of the old church. It is enclosed by a stone boundary wall, c1.6 m tall on the outside, but less on the inside due to the difference in ground level. In plan it is very irregular with curving corners which suggests that it may once have been the line of the bailey for the adjacent motte.
The vehicular entrance is on the SE side, with stone gate piers supporting cast iron gates. This is no longer used, instead part of the wall at the NW corner has been broken through to provide access from the new cemetery. The remains of a watch-house can still be seen near the old gateway.
