Sites and Monument Record: Abbeytown Bridge (SMR 731)

Description
This bridge crosses the Pow Burn to the SW of Airth Castle. It is 110 ft long including the approaches, and 13 ft broad over parapets 0.36 m thick. It has a single arch which is rebated with chamfered arises and a span of 25 ft. Set in the E face of the bridge at path level is an inscription set in a square panel with a simple border. It reads "FOUNDED UPON/ WOOD AND/ REBUILT BY THE/ SHIRE 1726". There is evidence of rebuilding.
