Site history notes
Before the erection of the parish church services had been held in the school. In 1876 a fund was established by George Ure for the new building, and he gave part of his land at the junction of Dunure Street and High Street for this purpose. Contracts for the work were given to Howie & Dalziel (masons), Wm Frew (joiner), etc. However, in December the north gable with its scaffolding and a crane were blown down in a gale. It was rebuilt, and on 11 Nov 1877 the church was officially opened. The church was allocated a parish of 4, 297 acres in the following year. In 1879 a session house was built parallel with the east wall of the church and buttresses placed between them, the latter already showing signs of bulging. The church hall was extended in 1881. Stained glass windows were added in 1895 by James Smith, ironfounder, and in 1911 by the Ure family.
