Site history notes
Built by William Pearson of Kippencross in the late 18th century "a genteel house, good garden and orchard of between 60 to 70 acres, in eight enclosures". He died in 1793, and it appears to have been sold to Alexander Spiers of Elderslie who died in 1818. It remained in his family until 1858. At a later date it came into the possession of Mr McKillop, MP who owned Laurieston Foundry. In 1924 Major Alfred Griffith purchased it, moving from Inchyra Grange. He was a physician in the army, and later practiced at the Falkirk Cottage Hospital in Thornhill Rd. The family owned the Bonnybridge Silica & Fireclay Co. He died in 1939 and his son, Freddie, was not interested in the house. It was used by the RAF in the war as a hospital. In the 1950s it was sold again, this time to a Kilmarnock auctioneer, who sold it off piecemeal. What you bought you dismantled yourself. The estate was developed by Williamson, the builder, and all that remains are the old stable buildings.
