Sites and Monument Record: Arnotdale House (SMR 945)
Description
Large 2-storey mansionhouse, originally built c1830 but remodelled 3rd quarter 19th century. Droved ashlar, panelled pilaster angles, symmetrical S front, twin canted bays with consoled 1st floor balconies and pediments; fluted Roman doric column doorpiece, flanks differ in design, W has bay with shell headed niches on splayed sides; set-back single storey wings with pedimented Venetian fronts (W has lost its pediment).
Set in extensive grounds with a small walled garden incorporating greenhouses and vineries.
Brick structure with concrete roof added to north in c1939 as the Falkirk ARP Control Centre. Windows inserted into this after the war. These occupy the upper part of the walls.
