Description
Rock cut tunnel 696yds long and 13.5ft wide, partially faced with masonry and brickwork. Simple semicircular arch at each end set in concave retaining walls of rough ashlar. Hand rail attached to towpath in 1980 and lighting in 2000.
Completed 1822, Hugh Baird engineer, John Mitchell contractor.
