Sites and Monument Record: Antonine Wall Sector: East End (SMR 970)

Description
St Mary's Chapel to Carriden fort.
A fortlet is sometimes placed at Bridgeness, but the only evidence for this appears to have been the discovery of a voussoir c81 ft north of the 'replica' tablet in Harbour Road (Macdonald 1937, Macdonald Papers Dk 7.36).

Site history notes
In 1939 workmen digging foundations for a bungalow in Grahamsdyke Road found stones which were initially thought to be part of the Antonine Wall. It was decided they were not, but its is not now so certain. They may have been associated with the Bronze Age monuments in this area.
