Site history notes
An estate plan of 1790 shows this building as a mill. Its origins may have been associated with the lost Carmuirs Mill.
A pond backed up water from the Lightwater Burn for driving the water wheels. In 1873 it is described as a corn and barley mill "contaiing three pair of stones and one barley stone". In latter years a water powered turbine was in use. The first three editions of the OS maps all refer to it as a corn mill. It remained in operation into the last half of the 20th century, latterly for the preparation of animal feeds.
