Sites and Monument Record: Stone lamp, Airth (SMR 1102)

Description
The stone cup-shaped lamp was found in Airth Old parish Churchyard in debris from the west boundary wall near the castle, probably derived from field clearance. It is relatively plain, consisting of a shallow circular depression, 86 mm in diameter, hollowed out of the schist of which it is composed. Projecting slightly away from this is a slightly flattened solid handle of a short type, only 40 mm long, with no decoration. The horizontal plain of the handle is marginally askew to that of the rim. The stone has been broken from a point just to one side of the handle at its junction with the rim.
