The business was started by George Ainslie (1885-1928) and his son Thomas Waddell Ainslie. The building was destroyed by fire in 1922 They bought the old Drill Hall which is situated on the north side of Corbiehall. The Drill Hall was built in 1877 for the local volunteers, 'B' Company of the Linlithgowshire 2nd Rifle Volunteers , founded in 1857. Later it was home to the 8th Volunteer Battalion, The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) (B Company) under the command of Captain Alexander Scott. After service in the Great War Thomas Ainslie took over the business again. When he died in 1948 his nephew, George Dundas, ran the business until 1980 when it was as bought by Douglas and Robert Haston.
