Site history notes

The 4-storey building, dating to the 18th century (?), with an ashlar stone frontage and a pitched/slated roof, was listed in September 1971. However, following the service of a Dangerous Building Notice it was demolished in June 1972.
The planning brief for the vacant site was for a replacement of similar scale to reflect the central importance of the site and several applications for 2-storey buildings were rejected.
