Site history notes
The first Longcroft Co-operative store was started in 1873 in a thatched house by 60 working men. John Duff was the first president and John Docherty the secretary.
New premises were built in Allandale in 1915 and consisted of a two-storey building with a double and single shop on the ground floor and two flats above. The front wall was of rock-faced rubble and the gables of snecked rubble - the stone coming from Corncockle Quarry in Dumfriesshire.
