Description
The Clifford Memorial Home, more usually known as the Bonnybridge Nurses' Home was erected in 1917 as a as a memorial to the late Sir James B Smith of Bonnybridge and Clifford Park, Stirling, to mark his long connection with the village. It is built of brick, rough-cast and tinted, with stone dressings at doors and windows, and with roof of red tile. The main door faces the main road and is encapsulated in a sweeping archway of brick. A window bay projects to the west.
The accommodation on the street floor plan comprised of the entrance hall, bedrooms for two nurses, living room, large bathroom, room for sterilizing instruments, clothes, etc., kitchen, pantry, washhouse, scullery, and maid’s room. In the basement floor plan to the rear was the coal cellar, cycle, tool, and other stores. The architects were Messrs Bruce and Livingstone, 7 Murray Place, Stirling.
